Key headlines this week, Central banks continue their shift to more hawkish positions, the result of the on-going global policy normalisation as highlighted at the Fed Meeting, growth and inflation data continue to remain in the macroeconomic spotlight and the continued geopolitical tensions become increasingly discounted. The critical focus for global financial markets and across asset classes for late September and into Q4 2017 remains the normalisation of interest rates. Looking back last week, the US Federal Reserve was back in the spotlight.  Despite leaving interest rates unchanged, the indication was for another rise in short-term borrowing levels before the end of this year. • ICYMI: We’re More Bullish On Growth Than The Fed

Two very important updates on the U.S. economy will be reported this Friday. Both fourth quarter GDP and durable goods are reported. To be clear, we still think Wall Street doesn’t yet fully appreciate how fast the economy is growing. In addition, the logical investing implication of this growth is a stronger U.S. dollar. Here’s a quick “Us vs. Them” comparison on fourth quarter GDP estimates (on a quarter-over-quarter basis): · Hedgeye: 2.91% · Wall Street consensus: 2.2% · Atlanta Fed GDP Now: 2.8% In other words, we’re even more bullish than the rosiest forecast from bureaucrats at Fed! Now that’s a shocker… WHAT TO BUY The U.S. dollar will be a big beneficiary of this acceleration of the U.S. economy. As we’ve said many times before, a stronger U.S. econo...

In prepared testimony to Congress Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen said on Wednesday that tightening financial conditions driven by falling stock prices, uncertainty over China and a global reassessment of credit risk could throw the U.S. economy off track from an otherwise solid course. The Fed Chairman's testimony combined a healthy acknowledgement of global economic worries with a continued optimism for United States economic growth. Yellen announced that the Fed believe there was justification to show that the United States will stay on a path of moderate growth that will allow the Fed to pursue "gradual" adjustments to monetary policy. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/KE6Hee4zMRE/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Business using ht...

With the conclusion of the two-day meeting on Wednesday 20th September, the Federal Open Market Committee stated that it would start trimming its multi-trillion dollar balance sheet into Q4, unwinding the extra stimulus put in place since the 2007-2008 financial crisis. According to the dot plot chart, FOMC members are anticipating another interest rate hike before year end, likely to be announced at the FOMC’s December meeting, there could be another three interest rate increases likely in 2018. Despite some FOMC members previously indicating concerns about recent dips in inflation levels, the Fed statement highlights anticipation for the inflation rate to stabilise around the Committee’s 2% target. With the Fed’s overall outlook for the economy still positive, markets reacted to the statement as if it were more hawkish. Elsewhere in America, the U.S. Treasury market pushed to higher yields this week as the US dollar strengthened.  Despite an initial dip for the major equity indices, the S&P 500 quickly rebounded back above 2500, close to the all-time high. Now that’s a shocker… WHAT TO BUY The U.S. dollar will be a big beneficiary of this acceleration of the U.S. economy. As we’ve said many times before, a stronger U.S. economy equals a stronger U.S. dollar. We also like the Industrials sector (XLI).

Yellen announced that the Fed believe there was justification to show that the United States will stay on a path of moderate growth that will allow the Fed to pursue "gradual" adjustments to monetary policy. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/KE6Hee4zMRE/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit Business using http://wochit.com

US markets lost ground in the final 30 minutes of trade following the Federal Reserve's monetary policy meeting. While the Fed did not surprise by keeping rates on hold, a cut to future GDP projections made markets question the US economic recovery.

On Monday Atlanta Fed President Dennis Lockhart said the U.S. economy is motoring ahead in its recovery, likely putting the Federal Reserve in position to raise interest rates by the middle of the year. In remarks to the Rotary Club of Atlanta, Lockhart said his expectation is that reasonably strong growth will continue through 2015, unemployment will fall, and inflation will eventually begin to rise - a set of conditions that should allow the Fed to raise rates by the middle of the year. http://news.yahoo.com/feds-lockhart-sees-strong-u-growth-rate-hike-173118820--business.html http://www.wochit.com
